Veronica Forbes, also known as the “Purple Diva” to many of her friends and colleagues, migrated to New York from Kingston, Jamaica at the tender age of 16. After graduating from beauty school and training under the most prominent stylists in the industry, she began her award winning hair designing career in 1973 at Virginia’s Beauty Spot, in Harlem. In 1980 she set out on her own, opening Veronica’s Beautyrama where she continues to flourish as and award winning Hair Designer.
Veronica Forbes has competed in many hair competitions. She has won more than 50 trophies and received numerous certifications and citations. Veronica competed in the 1993 Bronner Brothers World Fantasy Competition in Florida, winning 3rd place. She then Returned to win first place in 1997.
In 1999 Veronica’s creative talents rose to new heights and she took the International Beauty Show by storm. The judges and audience were so fascinated by her work, that she took first place in the competition and becoming the first African-American to win first place. In 2001 she won 2nd place in a Hair fantasy competition in London, England.
Since then, Veronica has done a variety of television interviews, she has been photographed for many newspapers and magazines including Life Magazine. She is also featured in the stunning book; Queens: Portraits of Black Women and Their Fabulous Hair. By Michael Cunningham.
A respected business woman in the community, she is often sought after by fashion coordinations, movie producers, and TV personalities to create hair designs for special events. She was the exclusive hair designer for the Universal Studios movie, Brother from Another Planet.

As a Weave Specialist and Licensed Hair Replacement Specialist, Veronica teaches many classes to other licensed beauticians. Her instructional courses include classes on Hair Weaving, Netting ,Stocking Cap Weave, Cutting Styling and the latest technique Lace Front Weaves.
Today Veronica is the owner of the successful Veronica’s Beautyrama, located in the heart of Harlem’s Historic Strivers Row. She is a mother of two sons, and she continues to challenge herself by setting high goals and keeping herself current on the latest beauty trends. |
